Say hello to the Shouse – a perfect combination of living space and storage/workshop. Wick Buildings' post-frame construction uses clear-span trusses.
Clear-span trusses provide flexibility for the building design, as there are no interior load-bearing walls aside from where trusses are connected to exterior wall columns. They provide wide-open space and high ceilings, perfect for equipment storage and workshop.

What Does it Cost to Build a Shouse?
What is a "shouse" or a "shome"?
Shouse definition: A shouse (combining shop and house) is a personal workshop and/or storage space connected to a house or living quarters. The house/living quarters can be a primary residence or a part-time residence (weekends, vacation property) and is often located on land utilized for hunting, fishing or other recreational purposes. (This can also be referred to as a "shome".)
Pole barn house plans: Start with quality design and engineering
Shouse house plans are different from a conventional house or even a pole barn. Not only do they need to meet local residential building codes, but they must also account for snow and wind loads, egress, lighting and venting, energy efficiency, plumbing and sewers, HVAC and more.
It's sophisticated planning and design, and it needs to be done right from the get-go. Wick Buildings' quality approach emphasizes design and engineering to help you develop the right shouse plans that will fit your needs both functionally and aesthetically.
Here are some examples of some shouse plans. To download these plans and choose from our other layouts, visit our Residential Plans page.

Durable materials in every shouse
Wick buildings are constructed using the finest materials, including:
Reliable, high-quality lumber: We only use machine graded or machine evaluated lumber for all structural components.
Durable steel and paint: We use full-hard steel, with 80,000 PSI hardness or better. This results in less dents. Our exterior steel is G-90 galvanized for better corrosion protection. And our paint is warrantied not to chip or crack for 40 years.
What does it cost to build a shouse?
There are many considerations that factor into the construction of a shouse, including:
- Functionality: What will you use the shouse for, and how much square footage will it require?
- Building codes, homeowners associations, and restrictions: All of these can affect construction and ongoing costs.
- Property: The physical location of the shouse can impact utilities, landscaping and more.
- Features: Prices will vary based on what you choose. Top-of-the-line kitchen? Extensive storage space?
These variables are all considered by our team of designers and engineers as we work to develop a price that matches your budget.
